Linux Systems Administrator (Must Have Active TS/SCI + Polygraph)

The System Administrator is responsible for effective installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. The system administration tasking will be focused on improving the stability and performance of the system, maintaining and improving the security posture of the systems, continuous monitoring of system health, and troubleshooting issues that arise. This individual is accountable for Linux, and application systems that support infrastructure and research and development (R&D). Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual operation.
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  2. 10-15 years of system administration experience in Linux environments
  3. Proficient with shell scripting, creating cron jobs, analyzing log files, managing user accounts and groups
  4. Familiarity with web-based technologies, including reverse proxy servers, SSL certificate configuration, three-tier architecture, service oriented architecture, enterprise service bus, and differences between browsers.
  5. Proven ability to multi-task, Independent, self-starter.
  6. Effectively communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner with technical and non-technical personnel.
SA Engineering
  1. Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  2. Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage
  3. Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or R&D activities.
  4. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  5. Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  6. Contribute to and maintain security posture of the system in accordance customer direction
  7. Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Operations and Support
  1. Install and update security patches on the operational and development system, document compliance
  2. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the availability of all server resources, systems and key processes
  3. Reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs
  4. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  5. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up
  6. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  7. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request as necessary.
  8. Repair and recover from system failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  1. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  2. Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications
  3. Maintain documentation of operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  4. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
